Weekend Update
Central Park birthday picnic!
Coming at you live from …
Crownsville, MD (Weekend of September 22)
Aladdin the horse getting all up in der
Jimmy, my parents, and I suited up (put on regular clothes) to attend the infamous Maryland Renaissance Festival. Some highlights include an insane balancing act and seeing very cool pottery, and lowlights include a girl spilling beer all over my jeans and shoes, and me offending the King of RenFest (JK, this is a highlight). He wasn’t just offended. He was extremely offended. It’s an embarrassing story (I made a joke about his water refill being alcohol. He went off on me for 2 minutes about it). Anyways, I was taken aback by the sheer amount of people at the festival, and how many of them were extremely in character. Felt like I was surrounded by Disney adults. To each their own, though. I ain’t judgin’.
Ocean City, MD + Columbia, MD (Weekend of September 27)
Jimmy and I drove up to his beach house in Fenwick on Friday September 27 to see The Beaches, Young the Giant, Grouplove, All-American Rejects, and The Killers on Saturday at Ocean’s Calling. After weeks of rain, we got insanely lucky with beautiful weather, but it was a bit too hot and humid for my liking. Long story short, I passed tf out from the heat, dehydration, exhaustion, and because of the fact we were in an overcrowded tent where it felt like all air had escaped and only cigarette smoke had remained. I passed out right before The All-American Rejects started. Jimmy then had to carry me for what felt like 5 years to the medic tent, where we sang along to one of my favorite songs of all time, “Dirty Little Secret”. We were able to catch the “Gives You Hell” finale, though, which was awesome. Jimmy bought me a slice of pizza (it was $10) and I gorged on it before deciding that we should go home before I pass out again. Thus, I had to miss The Killers.
The next morning, we drove to Columbia to attend All Things Go. Chappell Roan canceled, and it was rainy, but we got to see Hozier at the end of the day which was a dream come true. I made sure to drink lots of water and take many sitting breaks to ensure I wouldn’t have a repeat of the previous day. Other acts we saw include Flipturn, Del Water Gap, Muna, David Kushner, The Japanese House, Conan Gray, Renee Rapp, and Maren Morris. Ran into some folks from school and Jimmy’s friends which was also fun.
On another note, what the hell is up with the insanely high number of people at these music festivals? I swear, we went like 3x the maximum capacity at the Ocean’s Calling and ATG venues.
New York, NY (Weekend of October 4)
For my old roommate Vivien’s birthday, my friends Emma, Joy, and I headed up to New York City to help her ring in 22. We ate good food, tried so much matcha (just me? okay), repeatedly screamed “TO THE FOLLY!” (also just me???), saw Austin Butler filming a movie, had a picnic in Central Park, and even met… LAUFEY!!! The weekend before, Laufey headlined Saturday of All Things Go, so I didn’t get to see her. Flash forward a few days, and I meet her and her music exec boyfriend in a bookstore in SoHo the following weekend. I recognized her boyfriend first from a Netflix documentary I watched, and then a girl came up to me and said “OH MY GOD IS THAT LAUFEY?!?!” and I was like hol up wait it is?!? Long story short, I wait for them by the exit and strike up a very fun conversation. They were so kind!
Left to right: Emma, Me, Vivien, Laufey, and her boyfriend whose name I forgot. She’s Icelandic, and therefore awesome. I spoke to her about Jimmy and I’s favorite store in Iceland (and favorite word), Hagkaup.
We also had a beautiful birthday picnic celebrating Vivien and her lovely sister Catherine in Sheep Meadow, Central Park. The weather was SO PERFECT, the sky was a bright cerulean blue, fast-falling acorns were taking out victims left and right. Epic.
And soon… Silver Springs, NY (Weekend of October 11)
Jimmy and I are driving up this Friday to celebrate his birthday in the beautiful fall foliage PA/NY. Very much looking forward to it. We’re staying in this cool bubble tent which will probably be freezing but oh-so-awesome.
And that brings us to… My House (the present)
I just spent 30 minutes doing yoga outside on my deck, taking in the gorgeously colorful views and breathing in the crisp autumn air. Like, holy sh!t, the air hasn’t been this crisp in FOREVER. The deep breaths did wonders for my soul. I had a beautiful view of the sky and the changing leaves, and was greeted by birds and planes flying by (including a plane flying from Dulles to Copenhagen on SAS, which my grandma, aunt, and cousin all took recently!). Try to spend some time outside today, if you can. This beautiful weather won’t last forever.

Enjoy the sun and the people around you,
