Road Tripping!
Hour 0 of our roadtrip — selfie right before beginning the drive!
This past Sunday night, I got back home from a very spontaneous and exhausting day.
Two days before, I had touched down in (PAUSE — “touched down”… more like basically effing crashed into the ground. Worst landing ever. Curse you, Spirit.) Atlanta, GA at 11:47pm to join my lovely boyfriend Jimmy on his roadtrip back home to Maryland from Dallas, TX. It was the fourth time he was doing a 22+ hour trip between the states, and Atlanta is usually his mid-point where he joins his family friends. I finally got to join him this time around!
After spending a day in Atlanta and enjoying the beautiful home we were staying at, we embarked on our journey at 7AM on Sunday. We said bye to the doggy and family, and to the beautiful Georgian scenery. We made our way up into North Carolina, and of course I stopped at Pizza Hut when I was getting hungry and food options were getting scarce (it was $17 for a medium. I’ll never forget the pain I felt…). We drove right through the STUNNING Nantahala National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains.
Stop at Nantahala National Forest where we skipped rocks and where Jimmy took a nap in the car. I also complimented this lady's Bronco (as I was wearing a Bronco shirt) and she later asked me to braid her hair. #GirlHood
We kept drivin’ n drivin’ and drooling over the scenery (also I kept falling asleep the ENTIRE TIME. I’m talking like a third of the car ride) and we finally made it to Shenandoah National Park. $30 later, we entered Skyline Drive, and then were hit by a COLOSSAL rainstorm. It was freaking beautiful. We pulled over to a viewpoint and sat and enjoyed the torrential downpour. We continued driving, and before even MORE rain hit us, we enjoyed the most gorgeous sunset ever.
Talk about golden hour!!!
We pulled over incessantly to take in the views. As the rain died down from monstrous to dreadful, we were blessed with an INSANE lightning storm. It was mesmerizingly beautiful, and Jimmy and I kept freaking out over every strike.
More pictures here! First is a view of Old Rag, the others are the SMOKIES!!! 🐻
We drove quite possibly the longest way one could travel through Virginia. And at last, 689 miles and 15ish hours later, we made it home at 10:18 PM. We were both EXHAUSTED, but feeling so grateful and blessed that we finally got to take this trip together, over a year after we said we one day would.
Shoutout to Jimmy for planning the breathtaking scenic route and DRIVING the WHOLE FREAKING WAY!!!!!!!!! I <3 YOU!!!
Spontaneity makes for great adventures,
